Take the train from Flinders Street Station and you’ll reach one of the most iconic beaches in Melbourne, Brighton Beach, in 20 minutes.
It was a short stroll from Brighton Beach station along the seafront to the famous colourful bathing boxes that dot the shores of the beach.
Varied in colours and structure, these bathing boxes retained classic Victorian architectural features in their roofs, weather boards and timber framing. Many families use them for exclusive access while they enjoy the sand and water.
There are probably better beaches on the outskirt, but acknowledging Brighton’s proximity to the population centre, this is a good place to spend a relaxing afternoon out in the sun. The sand itself is not that soft, but the colourful bathing boxes definitely brought a smile to our faces.
