The Happening Place – Red Spice Road


Executive Chef John McLeay opened Red Spice Road in 2007, which quickly became one of the dining hot spots in Melbourne. His South-East Asian menu emphasises not only the freshness and presentation of the food but most importantly, the flavour, so diners are able to accurately recall their experience.

The second store at QV Melbourne offers a rare spacious setting and plays good modern music.

Shared dishes are the norm and the portions were huge. The Pork Belly with Apple Slaw, Chilli Caramel and Black Vinegar was one of their signature dishes. The contemporary combination of large nuggeted pork belly (tender on the inside and crispy on the outside) with apple salad, the sweetness of the caramel being offset by black vinegar and chilli, made the dish a standout. The Prawn Red Curry with roasted Pumpkin and Snake Beans also had very delicate flavours (the curry was exceptional!).

It was definitely one exotic culinary experience at Red Spice Road.
