The Grounds is one of the most innovative and chic project in the Eastern Suburbs in the recent years. The team behind The Grounds have transformed an industrial warehouse into a decorous space for people to experience coffee and food in a relaxing environment.
Parking spaces are limited and the streets nearby are usually filled with cars and trucks so parking can be a difficult task. But this doesn’t stop me from visiting regularly.
The Grounds is a mini town with a large outside eating area for takeaway meals. Here you are surrounded by vegetables, herbs and plants. What’s more, you will find small farm animals like pigs and chickens too! There is a kid’s playground where you can keep them busy while you enjoy your coffee. Inside the restaurant you will find a glass window which separates the coffee roasting room from the busy dining area, and a large blackboard which details the coffee making process from bean to cup.
The creamy coffee is served in a beautiful green cup. If you want to avoid caffeine, freshly squeezed juice served in a glass jar cup is another good option.
The secret spicy chicken sandwich is my favourite. Their juicy fried chicken is something I will not get sick of. They also make delicious thick and crispy hand-cut fries with chilli salt and spicy mayo. Finally it’s always nice to end a meal with some sweets and pastries.
The Grounds is a great place to chill out on the weekend if you want to try something outside of Surry Hills. Just remember to pack your patience and be prepared to join the long queues.
